Recently, I went back to the waggle and seem to have much better rhythm in my swing and ball striking is more consistent. Wondering how many of you use a waggle with RST?

    Author: colin.earl
Subject: Coming from Stack and Tilt--Questions
Posted: 02 September 2010 at 7:18am

There are alot of differences between S&T and RST.The difference could be summed up simply as S&T is about using the geomoetry of swinging on the circle and how the body needs to move to accomplish that, RST is about how the body moves most efficiently and safely, swinging on the circle and geometry is not a driver of the theory.

To answer the bits that Bill didn't address:-
1. On the back swing should the left leg straighten? This is a S&T instruction that I see many pros deploy. In S&T the RIGHT leg straightens in the backswing (you typed left, a typo I think). It gets straighter but doesn't lock straight and the left leg increases its bend. It's done to help the hip slants,to help the geometry of swinging on the circle again. In RST the right leg maintains its flex, which helps to sit into the right glute as part of the weight transfer process.

2. Where do the hands pass on the back swing? Again S&T instructions indicates that the hands don't go above the shoulders

In RST the hands will go above the shoulders. This is because of trying to keep the hands in front of the sternum, right arm flexion and shoulder elevation, which you may have come across in the videos.

5. Weight shift--instead of shifting weight back, would you get nearly the same effect by staying nearly 50/50 and shift weight to the left as you proscribe on the downswing? When you shift your weight in the RST you only need to move off the ball 1inch (1 inch hip bump in backswing/maintaining right hip line), 2 at the most if you perform the backswing and setup correctly. This gives a bit more power than no shift at all for little to no extra effort. This is why it's efficient. It's not a traditional 6 inches off the ball type weight shift that the S&T book talks about.
