SK,
We had a thread last summer where someone asked Chuck who was closest to his Rotary SWINGER swing on tour. CQ said Luke Donald and ran a whole side-by-side pic comparison. Looking at this vid of Luke, his shoulders at impact are pretty open to the target line, which is more Rotary SWINGER than HITTER. But, then he really releases the club by waist high on the follow through, which is more HITTER than SWINGER. That's my read, at least...elements of both. Hmmmn, may have to call that a Rotary MONEY MAKER swing! ![]() One interesting thing at address is his ball position. Looks like it's just inside the hosel. |

Yes, he has bits of both. He has a Hitter release with the hands, but tends to get his shoulders a little open, which as Ray said, is a Swinger move. Not every Hitter has square shoulders if they are aggressive rotators. Tiger is the guy on Tour who has the perfect Hitter impact position and keeps his shoulders the most square at impact, most others tend to get a little open.

Thanks guys. I#ve not really been keeping up on the hitter stuff. Trying to focus on one thing, but as I've not been able to play or swing lately I'm on youtube a lot!
It was Lukes release that reminded me of a hitter motion. I didn't realise the hitter was squarer at impact.
I'll go read more about the RH swing later.
Oh, Chuck, I'm still not able to get into the vault and I'm dieing to watch some vids!

SW,
Are you using your e-mail address as your log in? That's the one that gets you into the vault. Not your forum user name.

Luke Donald also tends to have a "closed" clubface at the top -- a Rotary Swinger position. He even joked about that clubface position on a 30 minute Golf Channel show about him. He even said his college coach would come to his house, go to the trophies on his shelf, and rotate the club in the hands of the golfer on the top of the trophy so it was in a "shut" position.
Chuck, how does Luke make it work so well with a mix of RS (closed clubface at the top, open shoulders at impact) and RH fundamentals (full right hand release)? I would think that he would be at risk of having have the worst possible "miss" pattern under pressure -- left-to-left. Is his success just world class athleticism combined with hours and hours of practice? Or does one set of fundamentals dominate the other? |

bhenry, luke rotates his shoulders through impact and gets more open than, say, Tiger. He doesn't release his hands until long after the ball is gone where as Tiger is aggressively rotating more throughout the hitting area.
