Continuing to work on Doug's rotation today over at Isleworth. The choppers were out in full force today. I don't know if they were looking for Tiger or trying to get a sneak peek at Doug's new move, check it out:
![]() The pic on the left is from a week ago. Note how you can see his right shoulder behind his head on the left side of his body now, he's added 25+ degrees of rotation which means he has a lot more power with a lot less effort from his arms now.
Here's a clip from the lesson today on Youtube:

mike, I worked with him once last Monday for an hour and once today for an hour. He also played in a Hooters event the two days following our first lesson, so he's really only had about 5 days to work on this. We worked hard on it yesterday and didn't hit many balls until the end. In fact, the range was actually closed so we only had a pile of Charles Howell's III Bridgestones to hit total and there were only about 40 of them and we hit maybe half of them, which all came at the end as you can see from the YouTube clip. About 80% of the lesson time was spent on drilling.

Did he put the other half of the Bridgestones in his bag a la tin cup
Chuck - I have to say I am SUPER excited. Not that you didn't know your stuff last year but it just seems you have a much deeper understanding about the "how" now as well. I just feel like you have tweaked this program for success and I am very excited.
I don't care if I hit a ball with Al...just get me where this guy is and I will probably cry like a baby...tears of joy of course
![]() ![]() Merry Christmas since I won't see you this trip!

LOL, no, he and Howell are friends.
I've spent the last year obsessing over every single mechanical detail from a learning and motor movement perspective - and continue to do so. Out of all that study and experimentation in my swing I've come to a much deeper understanding of the biomechanics that Jeff Broker has also helped me understand at a more mechanical level. 2009 was a year of deep growth in understanding the body and the mind and 2010 is going to be an even better year!
Building off Alison's and my original work, I've had the time look at things from every angle and, as you say, tweaked a lot of it as further research and understanding was attained. The next big piece is coming very soon with the University of Colorado's research of a 6 week RST program that we're going to test. This is where Dan Coyle of the Talent Code is interested in being involved and will help us even further in helping the brain assimilate new movement patterns.

*Bold and italics mine.......
Chuck,
I have come to the realization that the above statement that 80% of a lesson time is time more productively spent on executing the proper drill/s correctly instead of pounding balls. After all, what good is it when you can flight a ball correctly on the practice tee and then a week later it is crap again due to the fact that the fundamental movement that produced the correct ball flight has not been fully instilled into memory. This is not to say that ball fllight is not important. It is, but only after the correct movements have been ingrained first. Once the movement are down correctly, then one can tweak grip, alignment, and ball position to produce the desired ball flight.
I have learned so much over the past year with the RST model and program and am really looking forward to what comes out in the near future!

Magic,
Yes I agree, we all have an expectation of immediate results from ball striking, flight etc... but I have come to the realisation that this means absolutely nothing whilst practicing. It is just to do with getting the correct body motion and ingraining it.
Ball striking might come a lot later, when the grooving is complete.
Pounding balls potentially inforces compensations for poor motion.
I am taking some time off from the range to drill at home without the distraction of hitting balls. I hope this will speed up my improvement.
Matt
