some of my greenside shots out of the thick rough have been subpar.  I practicing hitting these shots out of the rough the other day and suddenly remembered something I had watched on the Golf Channel one time.  I can't remember who it was, but it was a playing lesson.

The technique was to play the ball back off the outside of the rear foot and the stroke was a very handsy cocking of the wrists and  dropping the clubhead very steeply onto the back of the ball.  I tried this again and was quite pleased with how easily the ball came out.  Executed it to perfection on Sunday.  Unfortunately, I used this technique a couple of times out on the course yesterday and the ball came out too cleanly and went 10 feet past the hole.

10 feet isn't that bad if it's a really tough lie. It's called "taking your medicine". .
I like that technique too if you're really buried. I do it with the most lofted club i can find and make sure i don't decelerate. The ball usually pops out pretty nicely.

skully,

It's a great technique.  The ball comes out easily with much reduced resistance from the grass.  The 10 ft. would have been great if I made the stinking putt.
