I played in the South Jersey Senior Open yesterday.  It was played on a nice private course that I couldn't wait to play and heard many good things about.  Well, I am still waiting to play "the course." Due to someone's thinking that Seniors are a bunch of old farts, the course was played from........don't laugh.......this is the truth......I'm not telling a fib.........you won't belive this.....THE LADIES TEES AT LESS THAN 5800 YARDS.  I hit a SW second shot to the green on a hole that was being played as a par-5.  Just plain stupid.

I hit the ball very well on full shots and had some problems with some of the many 1/2 and 3/4 lob wedges.  50-70 yards is not my strength.  Need some work there.

Shot 80 with 2-3putts on greens rolling about 7, bogeyed the 1st hole from a footprint in fairway bunker, had bogeys hitting LW and 7-irons long over the green.

I played well with a decidedly poor attitude after about the 4th hole.

hayes:

You're not a typical senior if you hit it 250+.  I'm approximately your age and hit my "Sunday Best" 230!  This "Old Fart" needs to play 6500 yards max!  Maybe all your conditioning is paying off.  I have a friend who is 62, has always worked with bodybuilding and weightlifting, hits it 260+ and carries a 5 handicap.  Hmmm!  Maybe there is something to staying in shape!!!

Hayes, it sounds like whomever runs the South Jersey Senior needs to be replaced.  5800 yards is ridiculous for a serior tournament.  I can well understand the affect it had on your attitude.  In spite of that, you feel like you struck the ball pretty well, so that's some consolation.  Keep after it, bro.

I emailed the association and voiced my disappointment at playing a wonderful, private course from the Ladies Tees.  The president of the assoc. also played in the event and responded that he was not happy and it will be corrected for future events.

Let me be clear......I was not disappointed because it wasn't played from the Tips and I could use my power as an advantage.  Less than 5800 yards is rediculous.  6200-6400 is fine.  There were par-3's of 85 yards and 103 yds as well as par-5's from 417 to 459 yards.  when yu play men from the ladies tees, all of the landing areas for men are now out of play as you would have to hit 5, or 7 irons off the tee to put the ball in the landing areas as designed.  Without yardage books you do not know the distances for the landing areas.  I played with two members from this club and they didn't have a clue about the yardages from the tee.

I understand, now, Hayes!  I'd be upset, too!

well done, Hayes!

The Senior's group at my club is "loving" refered to as "The Old Farts"!  In the recently held club championship, three out of the top five places in the overall, was won by member's of "The Old Farts" including second, fourth, and fifth which just goes to prove that some of us, myself not included, can still play the game.

Regards,

Magic
