Hiya guys,

Just got back from the european boys qualifier. 16 boys from britain get through 2 players from 8 different venues in britain. Played a practice round on sunday, my coach walked the course gave me yardegas on everyhole. I wasent a fan on the course as soon as I played the first hole.

All the greens were elevated. You couldent go long, couldent come short because there was bunkers short of EVERY green and they didnt have fringes it was all real dry and rough. I hated it. Played real poor for the first 12 holes of the practice round, but ym coach sorted me out. I was gettign real quick with the transition causing me to hit horrible quick hooks. Slowed my backswing and everything totally down and i was on my way. Hit a bucket of balls on sunday night hit EVERYSINGLE BALL FLUUUUUUUUUUSH, I was all confidence going to bed.

So monday morning, wind was REAL STRONG did you see the british seniors open in scotland? well it was worse than that Went on the range felt pretty good keeping it slow. Did some putting, couldent miss the hole and chipping was cool, I was quite confident.

Ripped it 315 yards up the first hole and made par, I got to the 6th hole and i was +2, I was doin quite well in these conditions. Made double at the 8th. DAMN +5 after 9. My coach (caddy) said, Rick if you wna qualify 9 pars will do it. So I birdie the par 5 10th. +4 after 11 holes, then go bogey bogey bogey But felt i was playing well its just conditions were so tough. So +7, go onto the 17th easy par 5 im thinking yes birdie time! Caddy pulls out driver and ses fly the fairway bunkers, RIP IT RICK. So I do just that nice 275 yard drive into the wind. Find myself with a real bad lie, swing gets quick again and I quick hook it into the flamin SHIT! So now im in real trouble, no backswing or anything right next to a bush in 10inch long rough. Hit my ball and it just goes downwards into the ground LOL! So then I just hack it out, make a 7 double bogey on a hole i should of made at least 5. +9. Finish at +9.

I was leader in the clubhouse with this score which was pretty solid considerin the conditions.

but then these boys come in with miracle rounds in these conditions and shoot +3! I ended up coming 4th when I was thinking about coming 30th or something before i got to the venue.

Now I know I can compete with the best juniors at my age in britain.

My belief in myself has gone alot higher. I still may be going to the finals in andalucia because my dads business might be a sponser for the event and they said if he sponsers them they will send me an invite for the 4 day european boys champs.

Well done, young lad!  Great effort under such lousy conditions.

Regards,

Magic

Rick, I've played in those conditions in Scotland and Ireland, so I know what you were facing with the wind.  You did a good job, mate.     Keep working on it, especially the mental side.

Well I have lots of competiitions coming up like Junior Opens and stuff and then I have the county junior championship on 9th august.

I know what I need to work on and that is chipping and 100 yards and in because my chipping is real bad.
