I know that no one else lives in my neck of the woods, but this course is hands down my favorite course I have ever played. It is a private course in Coeur d' Alene Idaho that Fazio designed and it has only been open for a little over a month, but it is flat out spectacular. When things mature and bit, and the greens get a full season under their belt, it will only get better. I didn't play very well but it didn't matter. No holes were contrived, and the views were breathtaking. Lot's of holes carved out of natural rock sitting on cliff sides, big elevation drops, tons of sand, and greens with lots of options around them. Of course there were those sweeping lake views also, did I mention that? The course is very rustic, but over the top with creature comforts. There are 2 "comfort stations" on the course and a chef who was making made to order fish tacos on # 5! A comfort station is a FULLY stocked kitchen with everything from crab dip to jerky, apples to oysters on the half shell. Never seen anything like it in my life. Never saw another group of golfers the whole day. Granted this place is very private and off the charts expensive, but not one other group? All of the phoo phoo stuff may make is sound like it isn't a "true" golf experience, but course was as good as it gets. Hole number 4 was 271 yd par 4 that wasn't driveable because of a dogleg. It was quirky and great. We played the second set of tees and it was only 6744 yrds, but the course rating was 72.4 with a slope of 135. Pretty fair with lots of great opportunities to score, if you don't suck like me. Considering that I haven't played hardly any golf and I was using some borrowed clubs, I didn't play THAT bad. 87 with 7 three putts is going to hurt though.
I am really lucky to have a friend who can take me there to play, but if anyone ever has the means to make it happen, they should go check this place out. Between Black Rock, Circling Raven, Couer d' Alene Resort and Gozzer Ranch a fellow could have a really good week playing golf in the North Idaho area. Thanks for reading.
