Hi Chuck,
After 20 years of receiving golfing instructions from various "guru", I am glad I stumbled upon Ritary Swing. I have gone through most of your instruction videos and guess I understood the mechanics.
I am able to reach the backswing, but in the downswing, I am unable to get my body to rotate, i.e. I still tend to come down with my arms first. Have I misunderstood the instructions and/or done something wrong?
Thanks,
CH Lim

You should work on the throw the ball drill and weight shift. If you still struggle from there, work on the oblique exercise that is on the site.

Hi Chuck,
Thanks. The weight shift seemed to work. The 9 to 3 swing is OK but in the full swing my left arm tend to bend resulting in thin shots. Perhaps at 58 years now I am not too flexible. How important is it to keep the left arm straight? Which drill is good for this?

ch lim,
I see many students who allow the left arm to break down not because of flexibility, but for the following reasons: 1. overactive arms in the backswing 2. allowing the right arm to exceed 90 degrees of flexion Now this is certainly not the only factors, but they are definitely two of the most common. Doing some drills with proper shoulder elevation adding right elbow flexion, making sure it never exceeds 90 degrees should prove helpful. Try the drill without a club first, then try performing the drill with a club. |
