Hi guys,

This is my first post on the forums...I joined RS a week ago and it has really helped me understand my swing better. One thing I'm really struggling with in my swing is the transition and weight shift part. On my downswing I have a tendency to clear my hips in a "jumping" (upwards) motion, and this causes my right shoulder to come up really high. When that happens my arms get trapped behind and my hands are forced to release the lag. At impact, my hands are level with the ball and not in a good hands forward compression position. Can anyone give me some pointers? Any help is appreciated!

You should watch the right arm throw the ball drill. The drill teaches you to work your arms back in front of your body while feeling as if your hips and shoulders remain shut.

I would like to know if i am getting the right amount of weight shift. I weigh 180, if i stand on 2 sets of bathroom scales, normal stance width apart, at address they both show 90, at the top of the back swing the front foot scale says 75 and the back foot says 105. I can see in the mirror there is no reverse pivot and maybe 1 inch of lateral movement of the hips (over the back foot). Is this about right?

I know that the right arm throw drill is meant to help you get the feeling of not spinning out from the top.  One point of confusion is whether you are supposed to have this same feeling when making normal swings.  Should you feel like you are throwing your hands across your body on the way down or should your arms stay completely passive?  If you don't work your arms, how does the club get back down in front of your body like it's supposed to and not get stuck?

This is one area that I'm really struggling with.

yes, all the drills we do are meant to be replicated at speed. You won't feel things to the same degree, but you should still create the same movement.
